NEET UG is the sole examination in India for shortlisting candidates for undergraduate medical and allied courses. The NEET (UG)-2026 scores and merit list will also be applicable for admissions to BDS and BVSc & AH courses, as has been the practice in the past, according to the regulations framed by the respective regulatory bodies.

Similarly, as per Section 14 of the Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, a common NEET (UG) will be conducted for admissions to undergraduate courses in all disciplines of the Indian System of Medicine, namely BAMS, BUMS, and BSMS courses, in all medical institutions covered under this Act. NEET (UG) will also be applicable for admissions to BHMS courses under the National Commission for Homoeopathy.

For the past two years, more than 20 lakh students have been registering for the NEET examination every year.

The examination will be held on May 3, 2026, and the duration of the exam will be 180 minutes (3 hours), from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (IST). The NEET (UG) - 2026 examination will be conducted in 13 languages, namely Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Telugu, and Urdu.
