To get admission in IIMs, MBA aspirants have to first crack
the CAT exam. After this, candidates have to appear for the Written Ability
Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) conducted by the IIMs. Both WAT and
Personal Interview are the primary selection criteria for admission to the MBA
in IIMs. These assessments are done after the declaration of the CAT results.
Candidates securing the CAT cut-off marks are then selected for WAT and
Personal Interview.
The final decision regarding admission to IIMs is taken based on the overall profile of the applicant, which includes CAT exam scores, academic performance, work experience, category, as well as WAT and personal interview (PI) scores. Shortlisting of candidates for personal interview (PI) takes place in January, during which each IIM publishes the personal interview (PI) call form, and qualified candidates have to register for the personal interview (PI) round. Personal interviews for the 2026 batch will be held in February, March, and April 2026. Selected candidates will receive a final admission call through an admission letter sent by email in May 2026.
